Texas Longhorns' quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an abdominal strain injury against UTSA, thrusting Arch Manning into action. Having Manning, the former No. 1 overall recruit in the 2023 class per the On3 Industry Rankings , as your backup is a great problem to have.

SEC Network Analyst Tim Tebow appeared on a recent edition of " SportsCenter " to discuss whether Texas should start Ewers or Manning. Ewers has three games under his belt this season, with 691 passing yards and eight touchdowns. Manning has 901 passing yards and nine touchdowns from four games played in 2024.

While both quarterbacks have demonstrated the best of their abilities, the Red River Rivalry is taking place in Week 7. The Oklahoma Sooners have won five of the last six meetings in the rivalry. However, Texas leads the all-time series 63-51-5.

Although Tebow believed Manning was already a top-25 quarterback despite playing in four games, the former Heisman winner thought going with Ewers was ultimately the right decision. Ewers set career highs last season with 3,479 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.

"I think Arch has done an amazing job," Tebow said. "I think he is a top 25, top 30 quarterback in college football, even in only a little bit of time, only starting a couple of games. He is doing a great job, but I also think it's so important that you have to be clear. Quinn Ewers is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. ...No matter what happens today, he has to be your guy."

Last season's edition of the rivalry ended with some late fireworks as Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel scored a touchdown with 15 seconds left, securing a 34-30 Sooners win.

Kickoff from the Cotton Bowl is at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN+.
