Man drops off gunshot victim at Penn Presbyterian, strikes 3 nurses and victim, then speeds off

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for a driver they say struck four people after dropping off a gunshot victim at a West Philly hospital early Saturday morning.

Officials say a 28-year-old who was shot multiple times on the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital around 4:20 a.m. by a man, possibly in his early 20s, in a silver Jeep Cherokee. Three nurses attempted to provide first aid to the man and that’s when the driver hit them and sped off, according to our partners at NBC10.

Two of the nurses — a 37-year-old, whose legs are injured, and 51-year-old, whose head and back are injured — are listed in stable condition. A 36-year-old nurse is critical. Police say he suffered facial injuries and internal bleeding.

Police also say the 28-year-old may have suffered an additional head injury in the crash.

All four victims are being treated at Penn Presbyterian.

Nicole Hoke, chief nursing officer at Penn Presbyterian, told our partners at NBC10 the entire staff were heroes in this ordeal and "continued to work to save the gunshot victim and care for all the other patients in the ED."

A hospital spokesperson said this incident is devastating and "is a reminder of the tragic, far-reaching toll of gun violence on entire communities." The hospital is providing resources for its staff and the injured nurses' families.
