‘I’m Going To Be Excoriated’: CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin On What Trump Winning Would Mean For The Media

CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin told what he viewed as an uncomfortable truth when asked what a victory by former President Donald Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris would mean for the media industry.

Sorkin was a guest on this week’s edition of Mediaite’s new Press Club podcast , hosted by Aidan McLaughlin , to discuss politics, media, and other topics.

McLaughlin wound down the interview by asking for Sorkin’s take on what the outcome of the election would mean for the media, and Sorkin predicted he would be “excoriated” for assessing a Trump victory as a “boon” to the industry:

Whether Kamala Harris wins or Donald Trump wins, what does it mean for the future of the media industry?

I’m going to be excoriated for this answer.

I would bet from a pure media, eyeballs, readership way, and this is what I think Jeff Zucker might have said back in the day…

Or a certain CBS chief who will not be named .

Was it Les Moonves who said this? That’s what I’m saying. Where I’m going is not good. My point is, yes, I think people are fascinated by former President Trump. And so if you’re asking me strictly on that basis, what it portends for the next four years of the media business…

It’s a boon.

It might be. I pray that we take that equation out of how anybody is supposed to think about this stuff, though.
