The Town of Fairfield gathered Friday to support a youth football player who underwent a bone marrow transplant earlier this month. Colton Johnston
, 10, was diagnosed with a rare form for cancer when he was 5 years old. After spending most of the year undergoing treatment in Boston, Colton beat the disease. However, he was later diagnosed with severe combined immune deficiency, a condition that required a bone marrow transplant. He now faces a long recovery period. In honor of Colton, Fairfield Youth Football partnered with Fairfield Parks & Recreation and Greenway, the field maintenance provider, to paint Colton's name and a cancer ribbon in one of the end zones at Sullivan Field. On Friday, over 200 players and family members gathered in the end zone to take a picture with the painting, which will be sent to Colton and his family. Colton's father and other family members were able to attend, and Colton joined on Facetime to see the display. "
