The New York Yankees announce their starting pitcher for Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

Aaron Boone told reporters on Saturday that Gerrit Cole will get the ball for Game 2. The manager said that the Game 1 starter is still up in the air.

Cole helped the Yankees defeat the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS. The righty started the opening game of the series and then picked up the win in Game 4.

The Yankees’ ace pitched five innings in the series opener. He allowed seven hits and four runs, but the team pulled out a 6-5 victory.

Cole then took the mound for Game 4 as the Yankees needed one more win to advance further into the playoffs. He threw seven one-run innings before passing the baton to the bullpen to close out the ALDS.

Cole has been a solid playoff pitcher during his career. He has an 11-6 record and a 2.94 ERA in 19 starts. The righty is 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA in nine appearances since joining the Yankees in 2020.

Cole will face the winner of the series between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians.

Cole has faced the Guardians four times in postseason action. He pitched into the seventh inning of all four starts while allowing two or fewer runs and striking out eight or more batters in each game. Cole’s team went 4-0 in those games.

The righty has never faced the Tigers in the playoffs.

Game 2 of the ALCS is set for Tuesday at 7:38 p.m. at Yankee Stadium.
