Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California’s emergency regulations to protect children from harmful intoxicating hemp products will remain in place after a court blocked an industry attempt to halt enforcement. These regulations prohibit the sale of any hemp-derived food, beverage, or dietary product containing THC or other intoxicating cannabinoids.

"We won’t allow bad actors in the hemp industry to target our children," said Newsom, emphasizing the importance of public safety over industry profits.

The court's decision confirmed that the potential harm to children outweighs the industry's concerns. Attorney General Rob Bonta highlighted the growing threat of synthetic cannabinoid products disguised as candy and marketed to kids. California's strict laws ensure that hemp products without THC remain available, while cannabis products will continue to be sold at licensed dispensaries.
