California Launches Innovative Dashboards to Enhance Wildfire Management and Community Protection

In a significant move to bolster wildfire prevention efforts, California has unveiled newly updated dashboards that provide a comprehensive overview of the state’s fuels management initiatives. These first-of-their-kind tools aim to help Californians track the progress of wildfire resilience projects and improve forest health, with state officials reporting that 700,000 acres of land were treated for wildfire resilience in 2023. Notably, the use of prescribed fire has more than doubled from 2021 to 2023, underscoring the state's commitment to proactive fire management.

Governor Gavin Newsom highlighted the importance of these tools, stating, “Everything we do to protect California from wildfires is connected, and nowhere else has as many tools to show the full picture while improving land management and supporting firefighters. We’re embracing the technology and best practices that will help us fight wildfires, and making sure Californians see the tireless work in their communities.”
