Japanese star Takuma Inoue will make the third defense of his WBA bantamweight title against battle-hardened compatriot Seiya Tsutsumi at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo on Sunday, October 13. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by ESPN+ in the U.S.

Inoue (20-1, 5 KOs) is the younger brother of multi-weight world champion and pound-for-pound great Naoya Inoue. After spending years in The Monster’s shadow, Takuma is now in the process of forging a legacy of his own and he’s one of the most improved fighters in world boxing. His recent wins over former champion Jerwin Ancajas and Sho Ishida have been impressive.

Tsutsumi (11-0, 2 KOs) is just one fight removed from a tragic encounter with another one of his countrymen, Kazuki Anaguchi. In December, the pair thrashed it out over 10 brutal rounds before Tsutsumi was awarded a close decision win. Moments later, Anaguchi collapsed due to a brain bleed and never recovered, passing away six weeks later at the age of 23.

The Sporting News will provide undercard results and a full report on the main event from Japan.
