In the wake of natural disasters, such as Hurricane Helene, the bond between pets and their families can be tragically disrupted. To aid in the search for missing pets, the national nonprofit Petco Love is urging affected families to utilize its free Love Lost national database, which employs AI technology to help reunite pets with their owners using just one photo.

As millions of pets are displaced each year due to hurricanes, wildfires, and floods, Love Lost aims to provide a comprehensive and user-friendly resource for reporting and searching for lost animals. The database is especially vital as local animal shelters and rescue organizations become overwhelmed during disasters, working tirelessly to rescue and care for displaced pets.

Key features of the Love Lost database include a straightforward search function that allows pet owners and finders to search for lost or found pets with a single image, robust alerts that notify users via SMS or email of potential matches, and community collaboration with over 3,000 local shelters and rescue organizations, as well as platforms like Nextdoor and Neighbors.
