Polk County, FL. - As Hurricane Milton’s fierce winds swept through Polk County early Thursday, October 10, 2024, Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies stepped up when ambulances were unable to operate. Around 3:07 am, a 911 call came into the Emergency Communications Center reporting that Zenia, an expectant mother, had gone into labor.

With ambulances sidelined due to hazardous driving conditions, Deputy Sheriff Calderin responded, transporting Zenia and her husband, Javier, to a local hospital, while Deputies Goolsby and Jones escorted another family member to join them. Later that afternoon, at 1:30 pm, the family welcomed a healthy baby girl named Jade.

The deputies returned later in the day to check on the family and were thrilled to meet baby Jade. The Polk County Sheriff's Office highlighted this mission as part of their commitment to ensuring community safety, even under the extreme conditions brought on by Hurricane Milton.
