Kalen DeBoer Under Fire for Postgame Message in Alabama-South Carolina

Kalen DeBoer's postgame message after the Alabama Crimson Tide's narrow victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks did him no favors when it comes to winning over the fanbase. In fact, it might have made things worse for him.

The Crimson Tide edged out the Gamecocks 27-25 on Saturday, but while it was a win, many were disappointed with the result. After all, the Alabama football squad entered the contest as heavy favorites against the unranked South Carolina team.

Not to mention that at one point, the Crimson Tide appeared to be on their way to a second straight loss after suffering an upset against Vanderbilt in the previous week. The Gamecocks led 19-14 entering the final quarter; luckily, two touchdowns and a big stop on a South Carolina two-point attempt in the fourth quarter allowed Alabama to win.

Instead of being concerned or dissatisfied with his team's performance, though, DeBoer appeared to be proud that his team was able to survive and win another nail-biter.

The Alabama football head coach went as far as to say that they are "getting accustomed" to such close wins.

Of course considering the proud history of the program and how the team is used to dominating the competition, fans took issue with DeBoer's statement.

"He still don’t get it. It’s ok to lose but the way in which we lose or almost lose every time the same exact way is inexcusable," a disgruntled fan wrote.

"Wrong answer! We shouldn't be comfortable, ever, or accustomed, ever, to going down to the wire! Get some defense!" another one said.

An Alabama faithful exclaimed, "What I wanted to hear, is we’re not happy at all. This game was awful. We don’t care about the scoreboard. We want to live up to a standard and we’re not doing it right now so we have a lot of work to do."

A social media user echoed the same sentiments and reminded DeBoer that mediocrity is unacceptable for the Crimson Tide: "Alabama does Not want to be mediocre, we are used to being Dominant. This guy certainly isn’t the guy. Defensively the DC is running a Pee wee defensive scheme, where the Tide is used to punishing the QB. This will not work."

"I can assure you we are not getting accustomed to this," another critical supporter responded. A commenter agreed, saying, "Sir no disrespect but we don't want to be accustomed to those."

Alabama football improved to 5-1 on the season with the win, but if Kalen DeBoer doesn't get the team dominating like it used to, more criticisms will only come his way regardless of his record.

I realize as a fan that our team can't win them all but I will not now or ever get accustomed seeing our team under perform..that's not the standard that we live by..if this is satisfactory for the man that was given the keys to our machine we may need to reevaluate the direction we are traveling...cause right now we could very well loose to a high school.
