Fans At College Football Game Flee Amid Safety Concerns

One college football game on Saturday was unlike any other.

The slate of games was arguably the best of any week this season. It included Texas-Oklahoma, Penn State-USC, Florida-Tennessee, Ohio State-Oregon, Ole Miss-LSU, and Kansas State-Colorado.

While fans tuned into those early matchups, the Akron Zips (1-5) and the Western Michigan Broncos (2-3) game received some unexpected attention.

Two minutes into the second quarter, Akron held a 17-0 lead, and Western Michigan had the football near midfield. That's when the skies unleashed on Kalamazoo, Michigan.

It wasn't rain that fell, but hail. Pieces of ice fell quickly, and fans headed for cover.

Play continued as the hail was on and off throughout the remainder of the half. Conditions slowly turned into rain, and then a thunderstorm brought the game to a halt in the third quarter.

As it stands, Western Michigan holds a 31-24 lead after scoring 24 unanswered points in the second quarter. Akron wide receiver Adrian Norton has impressed with five receptions and 141 yards.

It's uncertain when the game will resume due to the weather over Kalamazoo for the next few hours.

In Week 8, Akron will have a bye, while Western Michigan will head to Buffalo.
