Porsche has announced its participation in a first-of-its-kind new streaming series and interactive motorsports game, Lollipop Racing. Created by entertainment technology studio Feature.io and led by filmmaker David Ayer, Lollipop Racing will showcase Porsche’s latest high-performance vehicles: the 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT3 R.
A new blend of narrative episodes and interactivity
The series is structured as a unique blend of fiction and gameplay, featuring ten episodes alongside ten competitive motorsport races set in virtual recreations of iconic global cities like Los Angeles, Miami, and London.
Engage Porsche fans beyond mere viewing
The series, which includes two additional car manufacturers and Mobil 1 as its official sponsor, invites fans to be more than just viewers. Participants can sign up at Lollipop Racing to engage in the game, track the series, and adapt their strategies based on plot details revealed in each episode.
“Porsche is excited to be part of ‘Lollipop Racing,’ a first-of-its-kind streaming series and
interactive game that showcases performance-bred cars from the track-focused 911
GT3 RS to the dedicated race car, the 911 GT3 R,” said Ayesha Coker, vice president
of Porsche Cars North America marketing. “Integrating a scripted episodic series with interactive gaming in ‘Lollipop Racing’ will provide an innovative and fun way for racing fans, gamers and newcomers alike, to compete and understand motorsports like never before.”
Watching, and racing, on a motorsports team
Powered by Feature.io’s proprietary Smart Content™ technology, Lollipop Racing aims to redefine audience engagement through a hybrid of digital storytelling and immersive gaming.
Viewers will be able to watch the show and join one of 15 racing teams competing on virtual tracks. Five of these teams will be equipped with Porsche models, giving them the chance to strategize and race using the 911 GT3 RS and GT3 R.
Launch details
Lollipop Racing dropped a teaser trailer for the new series this week. The trailer features a Los Angeles-based street racing battle between two Porsche GT3 Rs. The series' pilot episode is set to launch in early 2025, with the race season beginning later that year.
Final thoughts
Exactly what “interactivity” looks like in the new series is yet to be seen. Still, Lollipop has said that players can engage in “reward-driven quests” and compete in the “Lollipop fantasy sports experience.”
“Those engaged in the interactive fantasy motorsport game must tune in to each episode to discover clues woven into the story and adapt their strategies to improve their chances of reaching the podium at the end of the season,” Lollipop Racing said.
We’re betting on some Black Mirror Bandersnatch-esque experience — hopefully with less anxiety and existential dread.
