NOPD: Car hits, kills woman in New Orleans East

A pedestrian is dead after a hit-and-run crash in New Orleans East.

According to a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson, it happened around 7 p.m. on the Chef Menteur Highway near Wilson Avenue.

Police say the victim, a 50-year-old woman, was crossing the highway when a vehicle hit her and sped away. The woman died at the scene.

Police are investigating to find out what car hit the woman. So far, police have no details about the suspect vehicle.

The case remains under investigation.
