Ryan Day Delivers Grim News for Ohio State After Upset Loss to Oregon

The Ohio State Buckeyes suffered an upset loss to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, then took another major blow after the game.

The No. 2-ranked Buckeyes came into Saturday's game as 3.5-point favorites against No. 3 Oregon but came up short, falling 32-31 after running out of time on their final drive.

The loss could be costly for Ohio State's standing in the College Football Playoff, especially after starting left tackle Josh Simmons had to be carted off the field after suffering a knee injury.

Simmons was injured while blocking on a pass play in the second quarter and was unable to walk off the field under his own power. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day said that Simmons would not return, then told reporters after the game that he could be lost for the season.

"Another blow for Ohio State: Ryan Day announced that left tackle Josh Simmons is feared to have suffered a season-ending injury against Oregon," CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz shared in a post on X .

Simmons transferred from San Diego State last year and had become one of Ohio State's best linemen. His injury led to some worry for the Buckeyes over the remainder of the season.
