Michigan's Sherrone Moore Makes 7-Word Promise To Wolverines Fans Amid Uncertain Bye Week

The Michigan Wolverines lost a 27-17 game to their winter 2024 National Championship Game opponent Washington last week only to watch the Huskies celebrate on their field like they had won all the marbles.

Meanwhile, Michigan entered its bye week with a record of 4-2 and a chance to watch their chief potential rivals at the top of the Big Ten on Saturday as Oregon, Penn State and Ohio State all played in down-to-the-wire finishes.

Prior to Saturday's games, Michigan coach Sherrone Moore shared a seven-word promise to Wolverines fans about the team's work ethic and aspirations going forward.

"Right now we're at 4-2 and our job now is to play the second half of the season and go try to win every game," Moore said.

"We're going to work our tails off."

Injuries have quietly been the story of the Wolverines' season, Moore's first as the successor to current Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh.

Star defensive back Rod Moore has missed all of Michigan's games due to a preseason ACL tear and doesn't figure to return after sealing the Ohio State game with an interception last season.

Michigan's injury list of missing participants for the Washington game included the offensive lineman widely viewed as their best, left tackle Myles Hinton, stalwart defensive lineman Derrick Moore, and several defensive backs who left the back line of their defense shorthanded vs. quarterback Will Rogers and the Huskies.

Moore is hoping to keep his team focused on the task ahead of them as another recently injured player, Jack Tuttle, continues to take the reins at quarterback, a position many figured he would have manned in Week 1 had he been healthy.

The uncertainty of Michigan's current standing in the Big Ten with so many new players and injury concerns is being framed as an opportunity by the Wolverines' head coach.

Previous Michigan opponents' performances including Washington's 40-16 loss to Iowa on Saturday and USC's 3-3 start have many fans wondering how good this Wolverines team really is heading into the second half of the college football season.

"We've got an opportunity to get better this week and then get better next week and then get ready for Illinois," Moore said .
