Ranking Timothée Chalamet's 5 biggest film transformations including unrecognisable role

Hollywood heartthrob Timothée Chalamet is known for his camera-ready looks on every red carpet. However, when it comes to his blockbuster roles, the 28 year old often trades his polished appearance for a quirky hat, moustache or a complete physical transformation.

With two biographical films in the pipeline, he has recently become unrecognisable to fans. In A Complete Unknown, an upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, Timothée channels a teenage Dylan, complete with matching sunglasses. And in Marty Supreme, an upcoming A24 film about table tennis champion Marty Reisman, he sports round glasses and a pencil moustache.

As we anticipate his upcoming films, what are Chalamet's most dramatic transformations so far? Here are our top picks.

    5. Wonka

Wonka is a standout film in Chalamet's career. Prior to stepping into the role of the chocolate-loving character, he had mainly played dramatic roles - from a heartbroken teen in Call Me By Your Name to a nonchalant ladies' man in Saoirse Ronan's Ladybird.

Although Willy Wonka is a departure from his other roles, the transformation wasn't particularly remarkable - although the hat took some getting used to. Remove the hat and coat, and there isn't much of a transformation, which is why it ranks last.

    4. The French Dispatch

In Wes Anderson's tribute to journalism, The French Dispatch, Chalamet plays a small but memorable role.

In one segment of the film, he portrays Zeffirelli, a captivating and quirky young man. The actor traded his typically sleek appearance for the wild hair and faint moustache of a scientist.

Although his physical alterations are somewhat understated, his comedic performance in this role renders him nearly unrecognisable.

    3. The King

Netflix's The King chronicles the rule of King Henry V from his unruly teenage years to governing the nation with a firm hand. Chalamet received accolades for his depiction of the reluctant King's coming-of-age story, and his physical transformation was crucial for the role.

At the beginning of the movie, he sports a messy bob that later transitions into a bowl cut, instantly polarising fans. Add in his medieval chain mail, and I must confess he looked far removed from a Hollywood star.

    2. Beautiful Boy

In one of his most lauded roles, Beautiful Boy narrates the 'true' story of Nicolas Sheff, who spirals into drug addiction, prompting his father (portrayed by Steve Carrell) to attempt to rescue him.

For this heart-wrenching role, the actor underwent a significant transformation, losing around 20lbs (over one stone), rendering him almost unrecognisable. This transformation paid off as he garnered nominations for several awards, including a BAFTA for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

    1. Bones and All

When it comes to Chalamet's on-screen transformations, none surpass his portrayal of Lee, a cannibal sporting a red mullet.

Bones and All, marking Luca Guadadgino's second collaboration with the actor, revolves around outcasts Lee and Maren (Taylor Russell) who find comfort in each other.

For this compelling character, Chalamet endured a two-hour process to dye his hair with three different shades of red. He also slimmed down for the role, though he hasn't publicly disclosed the amount of weight lost.
