Saturday night’s matchup between the New York Rangers and Utah Hockey Club was anything but ordinary.

What started as a regular-season game marking New York's home opener for this campaign, quickly turned into one of the wildest matchups of the young NHL season.

The game featured a little bit of everything ranging from weird to violent with a combination of chaotic developments that left both teams on edge.

The second period alone saw a staggering seven goals, 50 total penalty minutes, two fights in the middle of a brawl, and controversial calls that overshadowed the actual gameplay... while keeping fans undoubtedly entertained.

Utah's Clayton Keller sealed the 6–5 overtime victory for the undefeated Utah Hockey Club (3-0), but the headlines belonged to the chaos that unfolded throughout the night.

Things began to heat up when the Rangers had a goal overturned due to goaltender interference, ruling out Victor Mancini’s first NHL goal in his rookie season.

Rangers forward Matt Rempe found himself the subject of the interference call, despite appearing to have minimal contact with Utah’s goalie, Connor Ingram.

New York's head coach Peter Laviolette challenged the ruling, but the decision stood, putting Utah on the power play.

The physicality ramped up moments later turning into a violent brawl erupting on the ice.

Two fights broke out simultaneously—Rangers' Sam Carrick fought Utah’s Michael Kesselring while Adam Edstrom dropped the gloves with Jack McBain.

McBain was left bloodied after taking a heavy punch from Edstrom, but both were ejected for initiating the second fight, leading to game misconduct penalties.

Artemi Panarin had a two-goal night for the Rangers, and defenseman K’Andre Miller netted one of the most bizarre goals, banking a shot off the wall that unexpectedly found its way into Utah’s net.

The Hockey Club are considered a new NHL franchise after the Arizona Coyotes relocated to Salt Lake City, leaving their brand up for grabs in the event of an expansion bringing hockey back to Arizona eventually.
