The Washington Commanders are flying, sitting at 4-1 with their rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels playing high-level football through the first five weeks.

But the Commanders' opponents haven't exactly been "top-tier" teams, and with the Baltimore Ravens next on the schedule, some have labeled it a measuring stick game not only for Washington but also for Daniels.

However, head coach Dan Quinn and now offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have played down that narrative.

“I said it from day one like every day is another chance for us to see where he's at,” Kingsbury said of Daniels playing the Ravens . “That's the approach we've taken, and that's the work he's putting in every day. He gets here at the same time and grinds at it every day and we've just talked about making those incremental improvements every day, and building from that. So they have a great defense, it'll be an awesome atmosphere and I know our guys are excited.”

So, from outside the building, most are excited to see how the new-look Commanders fare in their first matchup against a true NFL heavyweight.

But inside the building, it is nothing more than the next step on the road to improvement, and while yes, a win would do wonders for the belief that the team is going in the right direction, the result isn't the be-all and end-all for Washington.

This week, the term "measuring stick" has been used to describe the Commanders' matchup against Baltimore, but it is simply nothing more than another chance for the team to take another important step on the road to becoming who they eventually want to be.
