'Not a good thing': Even some Trump rallygoers put off by his thirst for revenge

Former President Donald Trump is increasingly sounding lustful to exact revenge on his political foes and NBC News reports that even some of the people who attend his rallies are feeling a little queasy about it.

Specifically, Pennsylvania Trump supporter Walter Buckman told NBC News that the best way for Trump to get "revenge" would be to succeed on the economy

"The way to get even with anybody is to change the economy," he said. "Getting even should not be in the playbook. Is revenge a good thing? It’s not a good thing.”

Fellow Pennsylvania Trump supporter Debbie Hendrix expressed a similar sentiment.

“I don’t agree with that," she said of Trump's fantasies about revenge. "I think people like ‘Drain the swamp'... I don’t think he should sink to their level.”

Trump has been ramping up his authoritarian rhetoric significantly in recent weeks and on Sunday he even mused about deploying the American military against what he described as " the enemy within " the country.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a historian and professor at New York University, warned NBC News that no one should take such statements as mere rhetoric.

"This is out of the autocratic playbook," she said. "As autocrats consolidate their power once they’re in office, anything that threatens their power, or exposes their corruption, or releases information that’s harmful to them in any way becomes illegal."
