Paul Finebaum Names Undefeated Texas' Biggest Threat

Another week, another massive game on the slate for college football. This time, it will be a Saturday night showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 5 Georgia, in Austin. And if there is any threat to coach Steve Sarkisian's bunch over the remainder of the Longhorns' schedule, this one is it.

So says ESPN college football guru Paul Finebaum.

Speaking on the network's "SportsCenter" show on Sunday, Finebaum was asked what the biggest threat to the Longhorns is for the reaminder fo the year. It's No. 5 Georgia, a team that has struggled at times--especially on defense--but whose offense is clicking lately behind star quarterback Carson Beck.

In the Bulldogs' last three games, they've averaged 35.3 points, including a 41-31 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.

"Georgia has not looked good but remember what we saw yesterday, perhaps a look ahead to the weekend in Austin," Finebaum said, hinting at a potential shootout. "Carson Beck is playing well, there are elements to Georgia’s team that are not. But they will be a formidable foe for Texas. Texas has seen some good teams but they have not seen anyone quite like the Dawgs."

Texas, for its part, has been a steamroller all season. The Longhorns, whether with starter Quinn Ewers or backup Arch Manning at quarterback, have averaged 43.2 points per game this year.

But it's the Texas defense that could be the difference. Heading into the weekend, they were ranked No. 2 in the nation in yards allowed per play, at 3.75, and had yielded only three touchdowns all season, fewest in the country.

The Longhorns drubbed No. 18 Texas on Saturday, 34-3.

Texas talent level is much improved, but, they aren't an NFL team playing on Saturday, as is the case for elite teams like Bama, Georgia, Ohio State, etc. I expect my Horns will get a "welcome to the SEC, newbies" humbling from the Dawgs. Hope we play at least well enough to maintain recruiting momentum.
