Fans Wrongly Ripping Brady for 'Cheap' Hurricane Relief Donation

ARLINGTON - NFL legend Tom Brady has announced his plan to donate toward relief in Florida and this part of the United States following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. But in an unfortunate twist, some fans view the contributions of the former Tampa Bay Bucs QB as being inadequate.

Brady, the legendary New England Patriots quarterback who at the end of his career brought at Super Bowl to Tampa Bay, is now a FOX broadcaster - on this NFL Sunday in Week 6 here in Arlington to work the Lions at Dallas game - after having played three seasons in Tampa Bay. He additionally has a mansion in Miami, so Brady has plenty of Florida connections.

Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton have caused hundreds of lives to have been lost and has created billions of dollars worth of damage. Logically, every bit of contribution helps. And in Brady's case, he's teaming up with a corporate partner to make $200,000 worth of donations.

Writes Brady in a statement: "In the wake of Hurricane Milton, I’ll be making a donation of $100k to help get essentials like food, water and first aid to fellow Floridians in need.

"My friends at (Gopuff) are matching this, along with all the other donations made via "Give with Gopuff,’ all benefitting the Volunteer Florida Foundation.

"Keep those impacted by these storms in your prayers, look out for your neighbors, and continue to help out anyway you’re able. Stay safe, and stay strong Florida."

In the unfortunate view of too many NFL fans, though, Brady's donation isn't enough. Some are using the Taylor Swift donation of $5 million as a sort of measuring stick. Many, as chronicled by our colleagues at TheSpun , are using social media as a tool for criticizing Brady for being "cheap."

"Very nice but I would have expected at least a million or more," one fan wrote.

From another: "Not enough for Brady, one million minimum he got a Super Bowl there.''

And a third: "100k? Thats like me flipping a penny to them," another fan wrote.

The right answer when it comes to charity? It's about offering help, in whatever way each of us can. And when it comes to celebrities and their high profiles, it's in part about inspiring all of us to pitch in - however we see fit.

Here's hoping Brady's off-base critics have indeed contributed whatever they can and whatever they see as proper.
