Prince Harry has a strained relationship with the Royal Family , but that hasn't stopped fans from hoping he could one day return to the UK.
The Duke of Sussex left The Firm four years ago and moved to California with his wife, Meghan Markle. The pair have developed a frosty relationship with the royals in recent years, but with King Charles and Kate Middleton recently being diagnosed with cancer , some believe the bitter feud could end.
If a reunion were to happen, it's possible Harry and Meghan could one day be in need of a UK base . Property expert Jack Malnick spoke to The Mirror US about the options available to the Sussexes, should they decide to search for a UK home.
He told us: "Currently the former working royal has been known to stay in hotels when visiting the UK, including when he returned in May to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Invictus Games. However he may well look to have a more permanent base, especially since giving up his former royal residence Frogmore Cottage when he and wife Meghan Markle moved to the US."
Malnick suggested Harry has "a few different choices" if he were to purchase a property in the UK, but suggested the Duke of Sussex is likely to want to be close to London. The expert said: "This would be ideal for him to attend official events for Invictus Games and other charities he supports, as well as seeing family members such as King Charles or his cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who he retains a close relationship with.
"Many of his Etonian friends are also known to live on the outskirts of the capital, so Harry could well make a decision on where to live based on how close he would be to familiar faces." However, Malnick said it's unlikely Harry and Meghan would purchase a home in Windsor.
He explained: "Whilst Harry’s older brother Prince William and wife Princess Kate reside in Windsor, the continuing royal rift between the brothers could see Harry decide that also settling in the same town is a bit too close for comfort. He may instead look for other areas that are easily commutable to London, whilst still offering him the chance to maintain separation from London as well as its press and media."
Malnick also pointed to Harry's need for privacy. He told us: "Security and privacy continue to be two hugely important factors for Prince Harry and for his family, so any property purchase is going to need to allow them to hide from the world when necessary and be able to enjoy family life or downtime without prying eyes.
"He may look for a gated property with a large garden that allows the house to feel private, as well as being in a more remote location that can have a private road or entrance to limit unwanted visitors or guests." Malnick also said Harry and Meghan will need a lot of space with any property they might purchase in the future.
He told us: "With two young children as well as potentially any staff or additional family members, a property purchase from Harry is going to need at least four or five bedrooms to accommodate any guests that he or their family might need.
"Whilst any property purchase would likely be a base for Harry whilst on business there is always a possibility that both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex alongside their children could come, so they’d also be looking for adequate space for their children to play, study and enjoy."
