Giants vs. Bengals final score, highlights: Joe Burrow comes up clutch to lead Cincinnati past New York in narrow win

"Sunday Night Football" between the Bengals and Giants wasn't pretty, but Cincinnati will take a win any way it can get one.

Star quarterback Joe Burrow broke the game open with an unlikely 47-yard rushing touchdown to put the Bengals in front early, but it was a punt-fest for the remainder of the first half. Nine of the 12 drives resulted in booting the ball back to the other team but the offenses started to get going in the second half.

Burrow didn't have his biggest statistical performance — 19-of-28 for 208 passing yards with zero touchdowns — but he stepped up clutch when his team needed him most.

He got his bell rung by Giants linebacker Brian Burns late in the fourth quarter but came back onto the field one possession later to put the game away.

Facing a tough 3rd-and-12 with less than three minutes remaining and a slim three-point lead, Burrow scrambled out of the pocket and found wide receiver Andrei Iosivas for a 29-yard gain to keep the ball out of New York's hands. Cincinnati running back Chase Brown punched in a 30-yard touchdown to make up for an almost very costly fumble the play before, securing a 17-7 win for the Bengals.

New York had its chances, missing two field goals in the second half, but in the end, it just couldn't muster enough offense despite daring 4th-down decisions from coach Brian Daboll virtually all game.

11:11 p.m.: MISSED FIELD GOAL — Giants kicker Greg Joseph had an identical miss to his last field goal attempt, this time from 45 yards out. New York needed at least three points to give itself a winning chance with an onside kick but Joseph couldn't deliver. The Bengals will come away with a win.

11:01 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN — Chase Brown immediately makes up for his fumble, busting free for a 30-yard touchdown run right through the heart of the Giants' defense to put the game away.

10:57 p.m.: The Giants are in shock. Bengals RB Chase Brown fumbled on first down and several New York players had a shot at the football but couldn't secure it before the ball bounced out of bounds. A sigh of relief for Cincinnati, who will face 2nd & 3 on the other side of the two-minute warning. New York still has one timeout.

10:55 p.m.: What a throw, Joe Burrow! On 3rd & 12, he scrambled out of the pocket and found Andrei Iosivas breaking back toward the sideline for a first down and gain of 29.

10:51 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS — The Giants tried for another risky conversion on 4th & 3 from the Bengals' 36-yard line and it did not pay off this time. Daniel Jones' pass to Darius Slayton was broken up by Cincinnati corner DJ Turner. It would have been an approximate 51-yard field goal attempt to tie the game.

The Bengals take over from their own 36 with 3:01 to play. New York has two timeouts and the two-minute warning to keep its winning hopes alive.

10:45 p.m.: The Giants' offense is marching into Bengals territory. Daniel Jones connected on passes to Darius Slayton and Wan'Dale Robinson, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been rolling in the ground game. New York is knocking on the red zone door.

10:42 p.m.: The Giants get the stop they need. New York LB Brian Burns had a clear shot at Joe Burrow on 3rd & 10, rocking the Bengals quarterback to force an incomplete pass. The Giants will start their drive from their own 11-yard line with 8:06 remaining in the game, trailing 10-7.

10:35 p.m.: MISSED FIELD GOAL — Giants kicker Greg Joseph pulled a 47-yard field goal wide left, missing the game-tying opportunity with 10:27 remaining. Daniel Jones and Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the drive to get Joseph in range but New York came up empty-handed.

End of third quarter: Bengals 10, Giants 7

10:22 p.m.: FIELD GOAL — Evan McPherson knocks in a 37-yarder but the Bengals can't be happy. Chase Brown punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown but the play was called back for holding on center Cal Adomitis. Joe Burrow was sacked by Dexter Lawrence II on 3rd & Goal on the next play, forcing Cincinnati to settle for three points.

10:15 p.m.: Joe Burrow finds Ja'Marr Chase on a 33-yard pitch-and-catch to get the drive started. That's one way to respond to a game-tying score.

10:10 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN — Tyrone Tracy Jr. punches in a one-yard touchdown run after a pass interference call on Darius Slayton put the ball on the goal line. The Giants finally get on the board after a 16-play, 79-yard drive that included two fourth-down conversions.

10:04 p.m.: The Giants went for it on 4th & 2 again but this time, the risk paid off. Daniel Jones made the right read on a speed option, pitching to Tyrone Tracy Jr. for four yards to keep New York's drive alive.

10:00 p.m.: FUMBLE — The Giants get the ball right back after LB Bobby Okereke knocked it loose from Bengals RB Zack Moss' grip. New York will start its drive from its own 21-yard line.

9:50 p.m.: TURNOVER ON DOWNS — The Giants tried to go for it on 4th & 2 from their own 38-yard line but the attempt was unsuccessful. Daniel Jones' pass to Wan'Dale Robinson was broken up, giving the Bengals prime position to put more points on the board.

9:35 p.m.: Giants pass rusher Azeez Ojulari picked up his second sack of the game on a crucial third down, forcing another punt. New York elected to kneel out the clock with 22 seconds remaining to go into halftime.

9:33 p.m.: Daniel Jones found Darius Slayton for a massive 56-yard gain but it was called back on an ineligible man downfield penalty. Two incomplete passes and a seven-yard gain from Tyrone Tracy Jr. later, it was time to punt again. The Giants booted the ball back to the Bengals right after the two-minute warning.

9:24 p.m.: Joe Burrow connected with Tee Higgins on a 24-yard pass to finally get the ball moving but — you guessed it — the Bengals offense stalled from there and were forced to punt. Make that seven punts in nine total drives between these two teams. The Giants will take over from their own nine-yard line with 3:14 remaining in the half.

9:20 p.m.: You can't make this up — the Bengals went three-and-out and punted to the Giants, then New York punted the ball back to Cincinnati after a seven-play drive stalled. That is six punts in eight total drives between these two teams. The Bengals will take over from their own 12-yard line with 6:19 to play in the half.

9:08 p.m.: This has turned into a punt-fest. Daniel Jones picked up a first down on a 13-yard run on the first play of the drive but the Giants went three-and-out after that. They have booted the ball back to the Bengals' 30-yard line.

9:00 p.m.: The Bengals' offense hasn't been able to move the ball after that first drive. Joe Burrow connected with Tee Higgins on a six-yard gain for a first down but Chase Brown and Zack Moss were stuffed in the run game on the next three plays to force a punt. The Giants will take over from their own 14 early in the second quarter.

8:52 p.m.: INTERCEPTION — Daniel Jones was hit by Bengals DL B.J. Hill as he threw and the ball popped up into the air, right into LB Germaine Pruitt's hands. Pruitt returned the ball to the Cincinnati 27-yard line, where it will start its next drive with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter.

8:45 p.m.: The Bengals couldn't get anything going while pinned up against their own goal line. Another three-and-out, punting the ball right back to the Giants. New York will take over from its 33-yard line with 8:16 to play in the first quarter.

8:40 p.m.: The Giants' offense couldn't answer Joe Burrow's breakaway rushing touchdown. Daniel Jones connected with Darius Slayton for an 11-yard first down on the first play of the drive but New York went three-and-out after that. The Bengals will take over from its own three-yard line after a holding penalty on the punt.

8:31 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN — Bengals QB Joe Burrow does it with his legs for a 47-yard rushing touchdown! Burrow dropped back and felt pressure coming from the left side. He immediately stepped up in the pocket and took off running to the right, beating everyone down the field and into the end zone.

8:20 p.m.: The Bengals received to start the game and we are underway! Chase Brown gets the party going with a reception for four yards.
