Former South Carolina QB Spencer Rattler's first career TD will make Tennessee Vols fans grin

One of the biggest "villains" for the Tennessee Vols in recent years has been former South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback Spencer Rattler.

It was Rattler who ended the Vols' College Football Playoff hopes with a massive game in South Carolina's 63-38 win against Tennessee in 2022.

That game combined with Rattler's brash personality made him one of the biggest villains in East Tennessee over the last couple of seasons.

On Sunday, Rattler, who was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, made his first career NFL start in a 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Rattler couldn't lead the Saints to a win, but he did manage to throw his career touchdown. And wouldn't you know it, he threw the touchdown to a former Vol, wide receiver Bub Means.

Means, who spent the 2019 season at Tennessee before transferring to Louisiana Tech (and later to Pittsburgh) caught a 10 yard touchdown from Rattler in the second quarter on Sunday.

Means isn't a well-known former Vol, he redshirted during his one season at Tennessee, but he still wore the orange and white for a year. And it's quite ironic that he was on the receiving end of Rattler's first career NFL touchdown pass.

Sports have a wild way of providing some irony.
