The Colorado Avalanche lost their second straight game to open the 2024-2025 NHL season versus the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday in a game that drew plenty of attention both on and off the ice.

The Avalanche fell behind 2-1 in the first period and played catch-up for most of the game before finally falling 6-4 to the visiting Blue Jackets.

Afterward, a photo of Denver Nuggets basketball legend Carmelo Anthony and his son Kiyan Anthony began drawing attention on social media.

The elder Anthony decided to support the home team with a combination of a Colorado Avalanche hat and jersey.

Surprisingly, his son Kiyan Anthony, a four-star hoops prospect from Long Island Lutheran High School in Middle Village, New York, decided to go in a different direction in such a way that attracted the attention of both Avalanche fans and fans of one of their biggest historical rivals.

Kiyan Anthony wore a Detroit Red Wings jersey with a pair of sunglasses around his neck as he stood to the right side of his father.

Fans couldn't help but note the younger Anthony was wearing the jersey of the Avalanche's bitter rivals, as featured in the recent 'Unrivaled' documentary on the two teams' colorful on and off ice feud in the late 1990s and beyond.

"Guy on the left has it right," one fan said about Carmelo Anthony's son, who was shown on the left of his father in a photo posted to X.

"Love his son wearing the Wings jersey," another fan said with a laughing and crying emoji.

"His son with the Wings jersey though," another reader wrote with a 'skull' emoji.

The Avalanche are scheduled to take on the New York Islanders tomorrow night at 9 p.m. ET in Denver.
