Why was Alex Bowman disqualified? Joey Logano advances in NASCAR playoffs after No. 48 car fails inspection at Charlotte

The NASCAR playoffs are upon us. Drivers just made it through the Round of 12 following the Bank of America ROVAL 400 in Charlotte, NC.

The race didn't run without some drama. While we like to see excitement on the race track, this drama went down after the checkered flag was waved. It wasn't anything cool like driver rivalries boiling over. Instead, it was a post-race disqualification.

Why was Alex Bowman suspended?

Bowman drove the No. 48 Ally Bank Chevy in the Charlotte Roval race. He finished 18th but then failed a post-race inspection. NASCAR cited his car for being "too light" and disqualified him from the race. This means that even though he ran the entire race and finished 18th, his official finish due to the DQ will be dead last in 38th.

Bowman was set to advance to the Round of 8 in the NASCAR playoffs. Now, he will not only miss the next round of playoffs but also be replaced by Joey Logano.

Hendrick Motorsports, who Bowman races for, said they are gathering information and will decide whether to appeal this decision on Monday.

The Round of 8 begins with the South Point 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 20. This playoff stage also includes the Straight Talk Wireless 400 on Oct. 27 and the XFinity 500 on Nov. 3.
