Anthony Edwards Hints at Knicks Future After Timberwolves Preseason Loss

Fire up the trade machine, New York Knicks fans. Anthony Edwards wants to play for the blue and orange. Or, that's how fans are interpreting a comment from his postgame embrace with former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.

Edwards was caught on camera telling a fan that he'd "definitely want to be reunited with KAT" at some point in his career.

Towns spent four seasons playing alongside the 23 year old, before being traded to New York this summer. They reached the Western Conference Finals together last season, their best year as a team and teammates.

But a future outside of Minnesota is unlikely for Edwards. At least, anytime soon. He's under contract through the 2028-2029 season, after signing a five-year, $204-million max contract with the Timberwolves in July of 2023.

Edwards flexed his superstar muscles in the preseason loss, tallying 31 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds in 26 minutes of action. After finishing three games shy of an NBA Finals berth in 2024, he'll look to eclipse that mark this season, rallying around the additions of Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle this summer.

Edwards told reporters on October 13 that playing next to DiVincenzo is "(Expletive) incredible. I don’t need the ball. You see it. I’m having fun, man. It’s fun to play with Donte." He's yet to play next to Randle, who's rehabbing from shoulder surgery.

Edwards' comment about a reunion with Towns was captured during a jersey swap postgame. When asked about the moment, he told Jon Krawcyznski of The Athletic that he coordinated the swap the day before the game.

"We were together for a couple hours yesterday," Edwards said on October 13 . "I told him I don’t care who you already told you’re giving your jersey to, I gotta have it. He pretty much just moved everybody else out the way and let me get the jersey."

Minnesota and New York won't meet again until a December 19th, regular-season matchup on the Timberwolves home floor. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST.
