Governor announces more funding for Kentucky veterans programs

Several veterans programs throughout Kentucky are receiving some help from the Veterans Program Trust Fund. The purpose of the fund is to direct funding to projects and programs that help Kentucky’s veterans for which other funds are not available.

During a recent press conference, Governor Andy Beshear said more funding has been made available for four groups helping veterans.

“One way we continue to support our veterans is out Veterans Program Trust Fund. After September's trust fund meeting, the board approved and awarded $145,000. That brings the total awarded since December of last year to more than $955,000 to 29 grantees.”

The Governor said some of the money will go towards housing for veterans.

“Kentucky Habitat for Humanity was awarded $90,000 to provide critical home repairs for low to extremely low income Kentucky veterans. To learn more about this great program, visit KDVA's website, veterans.ky.gov .”

Other programs receiving this round of funding include HorseSensing. Their $20,000 will be used to provide nine months of support for veterans in their residential therapeutic job training and placement program.

Here is a list of all four programs:

• $10,000 to Paws-Ability to cover the expenses of training and the placement of two service dogs with local veterans or first responders struggling with PTSD;
• $25,000 to the Kentucky Aviation Historical Society to assist in hosting a two-day festival highlighting the history of aviation and providing a venue for service members to enjoy;
• $20,000 to HorseSensing to provide nine months of support for veterans in their residential therapeutic job training and placement program; and
• $90,000 to Kentucky Habitat for Humanity to provide critical home repairs for low-income Kentucky veterans.
