Enoki King Mushroom Farm has initiated a nationwide recall of its 5.3-ounce (150g) packages of Enoki Mushrooms, lot code 4877, due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium poses serious health risks, particularly to young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

Although Listeria infections may cause only short-term symptoms in healthy individuals—such as fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea—it can lead to severe and potentially fatal outcomes, especially for vulnerable populations. Pregnant women are particularly at risk, as Listeria infections can cause miscarriages or stillbirths.

    Product Details:

    • Brand Name: Enoki King
    • Product: Enoki Mushrooms (5.3 oz)
    • Lot Code: 4877 (printed in black ink on the front of the package)
    • UPC: 860011505600 (located on the back of the package)

According to the FDA press release, the affected products were distributed from California and New York through produce distributors and wholesalers to retail stores across the country. The recall was prompted by routine testing conducted by the Maryland State Department of Health, which detected Listeria monocytogenes in the product.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recalled product. However, consumers are urged to take precautionary measures and return the affected mushrooms to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Enoki King Mushroom Farm has suspended distribution of the product while the FDA and the company continue to investigate the cause of the contamination.

    What Consumers Should Do:

    • Check Your Packages: If you have purchased Enoki Mushrooms with lot code 4877, immediately stop using the product and return it for a refund.
    • Contact for Questions: Consumers with questions can contact Enoki King Mushroom Farm at 718-290-6617, Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM PST.

    About Listeria monocytogenes:
Listeria monocytogenes is a harmful bacterium that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in certain populations. The FDA recommends that individuals with weakened immune systems, as well as pregnant women, be particularly vigilant about avoiding contaminated foods.
