The Dallas Cowboys suffered their third disappointing home loss of the season this Sunday when the Detroit Lions visited AT&T Stadium. Losing in lopsided fashion in a 47-9 defeat that has many questioning what’s going wrong in the Big D.

Per usual, the Cowboys entered the season with high expectations that have not been met quite yet as they enter their bye week 3-3. But in this particular game, former NFL head coach and current analyst Rex Ryan forecasted this outcome for Dallas in their matchup with Detroit.

“I knew going into this game that it was going to be an ass whipping, that’s what I said the day before,” Rex Ryan said Monday morning on Get Up. “And I’m like, are you kidding me? This is going to be the biggest mismatch of the year on the coaching thing. Ben Johnson , the offense coordinator for the Detroit Lions, against Mike Zimmer , the defense coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.”

“Dan-O, it was going to be like you playing chess against Bobby Fisher. Well it’s not going to end well,” Ryan added speaking to fellow analyst Dan Orlovsky. “So you knew it was going to be a mismatch, every bit of it.”

The Lions dominated Dallas in every single way possible on the field. Not allowing the Cowboys to score a single touchdown while finding to way to score on each of their offensive possessions except for the final two of the game. A matchup Ryan believes Dallas lost both on the field and schematically on the sidelines.

“By the way Greeny, they never punted,” Ryan said to host Mike Greenberg. “Detroit never punted in this game, like you think maybe get some high school coach to go in there and maybe force a punt, like this is a joke. They get out schemed. Yes, they’re not as physical as Detroit. That was going to be a given, but you’re getting out schemed in any way possible.”

Johnson wasn’t just effective in setting up the Detroit offense for success, he even felt the need to throw a multitude of passes to offensive linemen while up big on Dallas Sunday. Attempting to add even more insult to the Cowboys’ loss with several trick plays.

“They did exactly what they wanted to do to you, and to me, that’s coaching as well, and it’s not just on the players. The coaches need to start looking back, like, ‘Hey, it ain’t okay just to play (cover) three weak, it ain’t okay to play match freaking coverage.’ Like you gotta do something, and we saw it,” Ryan explained.

The Cowboys are missing key players on the defense like Micah Parsons out and DeMarcus Lawrence , but Ryan does not believe their absence is an excuse for the way Dallas was out-played and out-coached on Sunday. As they’ll look to get healthy and clean up their mistakes during the bye week ahead of visiting the San Francisco 49ers on October 27.
