A new report shows that gun violence in North Texas - and the state overall - is on the decline.

The percentage of murders involving a firearm plummeted by 15% in the first eight months of the year. Nicole Golden with the group Texas Gun Sense says this undercuts a narrative that the nation is getting more dangerous, especially on the border.

"There has been significant decline in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and we celebrate those," she says.

El Paso saw gun homicides decline by 43%. Much of this, she says, is because we're no longer in a pandemic.

Gun crimes spiked during COVID, and are now returning to a more normal rate.
