Former NFL All-Pro calls out Browns, Kevin Stefanski for handling of Deshaun Watson this season

Despite being 1-5 on the season now and having a historically bad offense, the Cleveland Browns still plan to make no change at quarterback.

Following the 20-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles , head coach Kevin Stefasnki made it known that Watson was still the team’s starting quarterback going forward .

The decision to keep rolling out the starting quarterback when it visibly isn’t working not only has many fans upset but now former players are chiming in as well. Mitchell Schwartz was a former second-round pick of the Browns back in the 2012 NFL Draft.

“It’s incredibly shi*** to do this to the rest of the team. Joel Bitonio is out there every week playing through who knows what and has to wreck his body when they have no chance of being good b/c of the QB,” Schwartz took to X (Twitter) to say. “Myles Garrett is playing in pain every week. Feel for everyone else there.”

Schwartz played for the Browns from 2012 through 2015 and did plenty of losing during that time. The former Pro Bowler with the Kansas City Chiefs dealt with more than his fair share of bad quarterback play and knows what it is like to be a part of.

For players like Joel Bitonio — who is now in season No. 11 with the Browns — doing more of this losing thing while having a bad offense could be tough. The last few years have been different than the early part of Bitonio’s career, but this year is back to the same.

Cleveland has not scored 20 points yet in a game this season. The entire offense is struggling and Watson isn’t the only one, but it is obvious some sort of change needs to happen. Cleveland’s season looks to be derailed already just six games in, it’ll permanently crash before long if the offense can’t improve.

Watson is completing just 61 percent of his passes for 1,020 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. Cleveland’s starting quarterback has coughed the ball up two additional times. When the team is down, there has been no sense of feeling the offense can score points to bring them back.

At some point, the Browns are going to have to bend the knee and sit Watson if this continues. Until then, the noise on the outside is just going to continue to grow.
