Jimmy Fallon Says Matthew McConaughey “Blew Open A Blister” And Started Bleeding During The Iconic “Tight Pants” Sketch: “People Were In Shock”

For more than a decade, Jimmy Fallon ‘s “Tight Pants” sketch has been making people across America — including Andy Cohen — laugh out loud. But one recent rendition of the iconic bit with Matthew McConaughey turned out to be a (literal) bloody mess.
Fallon stopped by Sunday night’s (Oct. 13) episode of Watch What Happens Live , where Cohen gushed over his “Tight Pants” sketch with Will Ferrell , which finds the two men singing a catchy song about their tight, white pants.
“It is so funny to me and I laugh every time,” Cohen said.
In a January 2024 episode of The Tonight Show , Fallon switched out Ferrell for McConaughey — and things got so messy that they had to redo the sketch.
“So, we do ‘Tight Pants’ with Matthew McConaughey and it was great. At the end, we do the whole bit and we get into a fake argument or whatever,” Fallon explained.
The Saturday Night Live alum reenacted McConaughey’s part, showing off how he smacked his butt in the middle of the song.
“He’s doing it and he turns around and there’s blood all over his white pants. Like, handprints in blood,” Fallon recalled. “I go, ‘What’s going on?’ We finish the sketch and I go to commercial and I go, ‘Hey, what happened? I’ve never bled during a comedy sketch — especially Tight Pants.’ And he’s like, ‘I don’t know.’”
As it turned out, McConaughey went a little too hard in his tight pants.
“I looked and I guess he had a blister on his hand because he does stuff. He’s a carpenter, he builds things. He slapped his butt so hard that he blew open a blister in his hand,” Fallon said, before adding, “We had to find tight white pants and do the sketch again because people were in shock.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock .
