Aidan Hutchinson injury: Detroit Lions share new update, next steps

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula, according to a release from the team.

Currently, there is no timetable for his return. However, he’s expected to make a full recovery.

The statement can be read below.

“Aidan Hutchinson underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured tibia and fibula at Baylor White Medical Center in Irving, Texas last night,” the statement read. “Hutchinson will return to Detroit this week and is expected to make a full recovery. There is no timeline for his return to play at this time.”

Lions coach Dan Campbell also provided a postgame update on Aidan Hutchinson’s status .

“He’s in good hands right now. He’s being taken care of,” Campbell said . “He’ll stay back here, and obviously he’s going to be down for a little while. So that’s tough, man. It’s hard when you lose someone like him. But we’ll know a lot more after this and obviously wish him the best.”

Hutchinson exited a game against the Dallas Cowboys in the third quarter after his leg was rolled up on by another player and seemingly buckled under the weight of the impact .

Hutchinson, the Lions’ top defensive player, is in his third season in the NFL. Over his five games this season entering Sunday’s contest, he had totaled 19 tackles, 7.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He leads Detroit in sacks.

Aidan Hutchinson wasted little time introducing himself to the NFL, having a monster rookie campaign that earned him PFWA All-Rookie honors. He logged 52 tackles, 9.5 sacks, a pair of fumble recoveries, three interceptions and three passes defended in 2022.

He followed that up with an even more productive sophomore season, tallying 51 tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, an interception and seven passes defended.
