The Colts appear to have found a diamond in the rough at a position where they desperately needed it most

The Indianapolis Colts pulled out a needed win in Week 6 over their AFC South rivals, the Tennessee Titans.

While multiple players stepped up big for the team, one player who has stacked solid performances deserves praise for his incredible start to the season. That player is cornerback Samuel Womack III.

The Colts claimed Womack off of waivers this season after the league-wide cut down to 53 players. Womack was waived by the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted him with the 172nd pick in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. During his two seasons with the 49ers, he appeared in 23 games and recorded one interception, two pass deflections, and 26 total tackles.

He was mainly a special teamer with San Francisco and only logged one defensive start during his two seasons there. He has already surpassed that here in Indianapolis, with him starting four of the team's six games this season. That number is only going to keep growing with Juju Brents on the injured reserve list. Through six games, Womack has been credited with five pass deflections, all of which have occurred over the past three weeks. He has been targeted six times and has only allowed two receptions for 18 yards.

He has truly been a revelation for the Colts, which explains why he was one of the most popular players on the waiver wire. Three teams submitted claims for the third-year CB: The Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Colts. We will have to see what the rest of the season looks like for Womack, but he is making a solid argument to be a part of the Colts' long-term plans at CB. With him playing so well in Indianapolis, I had to ask A to Z 49ers Beat Writer Nicholas McGee why he didn't stick around with the 49ers. Here is what he had to say.

"Just an odd man out deal. Drafted Green very high and signed Yiadom and Ya-sin to guaranteed money.

Essentialy came down to him versus Darrell Luter Jr. Luterhad the better preseason but I think the Niners would have loved to have kept Womack on the practice squad.

Niners though highly of him right away as a rookie, the stars just never seemed to align for him. Glad he's playing well in Indy!"
