‘Get It Out of the Playbook!’ CBS’ Ian Eagle Shreds Pittsburgh Steelers After Trick Play Ends in Disaster

CBS play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle didn’t hold back on the Pittsburgh Steelers after the team’s attempt at a trick play had disastrous results.

In the middle of the second quarter of the team’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, the Steelers trailer 7-6. While driving down the field, the Steelers decided to shake things up with a trick play. After quarterback Justin Fields snapped the ball, he pitched it to running back Aaron Shampklin . The running back then pitched it to tight end Pat Freiermuth , who was running in the opposite direction as if he were running an end-around. In yet another layer of trickery, Freiermuth pitched it back to Fields to throw the ball.

Unfortunately for the Steelers, Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo saw right through all the misdirection and ran straight at Fields for a 13-yard sack.

“Trickery… back for Fields — that didn’t work!” Eagle said on the broadcast. “Get it out of the playbook! Divine Deablo! You want razzle-dazzle? You just got it on defense. It’s a loss of 13.”

Although the play already looked bad enough, it was made even worse by the Detroit Lions executing an identical play roughly 15 minutes later in their game against the Dallas Cowboys . Instead of a 13-yard sack, QB Jared Goff threw a 52-yard touchdown to tight end Sam LaPorta .
