LAKE FOREST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Authorities in Lake Forest are looking for a boater who disappeared on Lake Michigan Sunday afternoon.

This happened around 2:45 p.m. That's when the Lake Forest Fire Department responded to the Lake Forest Boat Launch for a report of a missing boater.

According to family members, the man was supposed to meet up with them around 2 p.m. but never showed up. Crews said they eventually found the boat amid the waves, but it was empty.

The boater's phone later pinged near Glencoe Beach and, at around 5:30 last night, the water search was suspended, while Coast Guard helicopters continued the search by air.

The helicopter search ended at 7:30 p.m.

The fire department resumed their surface search at around 8 a.m. for the man who has been identified as a 43-year-old Lake Forest resident.

I'm sorry for his family, but the winds from the hurricane made it here. There were gale force winds on the lake. Rip and high wave warnings. He had no business on the lake, let alone the dinky boat, comparatively speaking. I just wish people would smarten up. Respect it. It only takes one little mistake, and it will unmercily take its victims
