City notifying customers of Water-Service Line Materials-Lead Project

    By City of Athens,

The City of Athens Public Water Supply (PWS) will be sending notifications to water customers detailing the status, to the best of our knowledge, of customers’ water-service line material.

A water-service line is plumbing connecting the City’s water main to a customer’s building, and is comprised of two parts, which are divided at the water meter, a utility (City) side and a customer (private) side.

Further, we have provided this same information to Ohio EPA, as part of our compliance with the US EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision. The Athens PWS has confirmed it does not have any lead water mains. Water mains are the large pipes in the streets that carry water to multiple properties.

Also, the Athens PWS cannot confirm the material of water-service lines on the customer’s side of the meter without the public’s help. This year’s notification process will be completed by November 15, 2024.

Please visit https://lead-service-line-inventory-cityofathensoh.hub.arcgis.com/ for our most up-to-date “Lead” water service line information. If you have questions, concerns, or additional information to share about your water-service material, please call or text Steve Adams, Environmental Coordinator, at 740-279-0523 or email at sadams@ci.athens.oh.us.

They must be bored with the bag bans and cease fire declarations and decided to do something that is actually constructive and necessary!
