Another week is in the books in the Big XII conference and we’ve got a few surprises at or near the top of the standings. Sure, it’s early, but a few teams are starting to separate themselves. And, as an added bonus, the Kansas Jayhawks didn't lose a game in the fourth quarter. We dive into it all for the weekly Big XII roundup.

    Arizona State 27, Utah 19

The Friday night game added some early intrigue into the Big XII title race as upstarts Arizona State beat Utah. Utes quarterback Cam Rising had a game to forget, tossing three interceptions in his team’s second loss in conference play. Another Cam, ASU’s Skattebo, fared much better. The Sun Devil running back rushed for 156 yards and two TDs in the win that takes Arizona State near the top of the Big XII table. Utah plays TCU next weekend and the Sun Devils take the week off.

    K-State 31, Colorado 28

It was another fine offensive showing for Colorado’s quarterback as Shedeur Sanders threw for 388 yards and three touchdowns. But when it mattered most, the Colorado defense couldn’t stop Avery Johnson and the K-State offense. In a three play, 51 second, 84 yard drive that culminated in a 50 yard Johnson pass to Jayce Brown, the Wildcats snatched a win away from home and set their sights on the conference crown. West Virginia comes to Manhattan next weekend while Colorado travels to Arizona to take on another set of Wildcats.

    BYU 41, Arizona 19

Speaking of those Wildcats, they will be licking their wounds after a shellacking at the hands of the BYU Cougars. The BYU defense forced four turnovers on the night, including three interceptions from Arizona QB Noah Fifita. The undefeated Cougars sit at the top of the league and are off to their best start to a football season in four years. They host Oklahoma State next weekend.

Iowa State 28, West Virginia 16

The other undefeated team in the Big XII is the Iowa State Cyclones. ISU quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 265 yards and a score while running back Carson Hansen added 96 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to lead the Cyclones past West Virginia. In a game where almost all of the game stats are even, Garrett Greene’s two interceptions stand out.

    Cincinnati 19, UCF 13

In a game that still doesn’t feel like a conference game, Cincinnati beat the Knights of Central Florida. Not much happened in this one, but UCF will definitely have to score touchdowns and not settle for field goals if they are going to have any chance of beating Iowa State next weekend in Ames.
