During Klay Thompson 's two-year hiatus from the NBA and basketball due to his ACL/Achilles injuries, Klay's 'Sea Captain' persona became a notable aspect of his public image. While many fans assumed that this was merely a recreational pursuit for the four-time NBA champion, the reality was more profound.

Mychal Thompson revealed that his son might dedicate his entire post-basketball life to maritime pursuits, potentially ending all ties with the NBA once his playing career concludes.

Mychal on his son's potential plans

Although the five-time All-Star has demonstrated remarkable resilience in recovering from such concerning injuries, reestablishing his relevance in the league, and contributing to a championship-contending team, Mychal emphasized how his son's determination is restricted to his playing days.

Interestingly, the former L.A. Laker asserted that upon retirement, 'Killa Klay' would embark on a totally different life trajectory.

"I'd be shocked if he sticks around the NBA scene," Mychal said . "He's really into the ocean, really into his boat. I could see him getting on a boat and just sailing the world - cruising the world."

Mychal on the unique lifestyle Klay would follow

Diving deeper into Klay's career options, 'Sweet Bells' mentioned that the Dallas Mavericks guard wouldn't mind becoming a travel guide and taking tourists out simply because he loves being in the water and socializing.

"Becoming an old sea captain in The Bahamas, and taking tourists out for excursions and stuff," the two-time NBA champ added. "I could see him doing that. And if you've ever been to The Bahamas, you'll understand why he'd want to do it. It's the most beautiful sailing or boating water in the world."

Whether Klay really embraces his 'Sea Capitan' moniker might also depend on how he wraps up his career. Joining a new team for the 2024-25 season is already a big challenge for someone who has spent over a decade with the Dubs and is still hungry enough to add to his legacy. So, if things go differently than planned, who knows if Thompson would even want to head out on the water anymore?
