Prince Harry and Meghan Decline Princess Di's Brother's Holiday Invitation

Christmas at Althrop House, home to the Spencer family for over 500 years, will be celebrated without Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle. The pair have reportedly declined an invitation from Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's brother and the Duke’s uncle, to join the Spencer family for Christmas 2024.

According to a source, the couple is basing this decision on concerns over the security and safety of their two young children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

The family did not attend the Sandringham Christmas celebrations with the rest of the Royal Family last year either.

When he visited Britain in August, Prince Harry did stay at Althorp House, the house of his maternal heritage and the location of his mother's tomb. He was staying with his uncle, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, at this time, having attended the memorial service for Diana's brother-in-law, Lord Robert Fellowes.

Harry explained as to why he would not bring Meghan overseas. During an interview, he commented on the security risks he sees. On ITV's Tabloids on Trial, the Duke of Sussex said, "It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read and whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country."
