    Popular Health Food Recalled In Illinois Poses Risk Of Deadly Infection

    Enoki King Mushroom Farm recalled one lot of their 5.3-ounce (150g) packages of Enoki Mushroom on Friday (October 11), due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

    According to the United States Food and Drug Administration , Listeria monocytogenes (when consumed) "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune system." Those without weakened immune systems might experience "high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea" in addition to other symptoms including stillbirths and miscarriages among pregnant women.

    No illnesses were reported as a result of consuming the product as of October 11th.

    The affected lot code, featured on the front of the package is 4877 along with UPC code 860011505600 . The products were distributed to stores nationwide including those in Illinois .

    Consumers with questions regarding the aforementioned products can contact Enoki King Mushroom Farm at "718.290.6617, Monday to Friday 8 AM to 4 PM PST."

    Individuals who previously purchased a package of Enoki Mushrooms with lot code 4877 are encouraged to throw the product out or return it to the place they purchased it for a full refund.
