KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knox County man is being called a “good neighbor” after he noticed a house fire, woke the people inside the home, and tried to battle the blaze until firefighters arrived, Rural Metro Fire said.

According to the fire department, crews responded to the scene of the fire in the 1100 block of Albany Road in West Knox County around 6 a.m. When they got there, they found the man outside working to extinguish the fire he noticed in his neighbor’s house.

Rural Metro said the neighbor had alerted the people who were sleeping inside the home to the fire, and his work to battle the blaze kept the damage to the home minimal.

While the man’s identity was not shared, the fire department thanked him for being a “good neighbor” in a social media post.

“This is what we mean when we say look out for each other! Thanks for being a good neighbor,” Rural Metro wrote.

Photos from the scene shared by Rural Metro show fire damage on a wall beside the home’s front door.
