Former Florida player makes comment about Vols' win against Gators that will anger Tennessee fans

The Florida Gators had plenty of chances to beat the Tennessee Vols this past Saturday night in Knoxville, but they made several big mistakes in critical moments (such as fumbling at the goal line).

Those missed opportunities kept the game close and Tennessee was able to eventually prevail in overtime, winning 23-17 on a Dylan Sampson walk-off touchdown.

After the game, former Florida offensive lineman Jon Halapio, who played in Gainesville from 2009 to 2013, took to Twitter/X.com to suggest that the Gators should've won the game in blowout fashion.

"That was irritating and annoying," wrote Halapio. "This game should have been a blowout."

There's no doubt that Florida blew several opportunities that could've changed the game.

But a blowout?

I don't know about that, Jon.

Tennessee missed plenty of opportunities, too. The Vols shot themselves in the foot by committing five live ball penalties -- a couple of them in key situations. And Tennessee also missed several deep shots down the field where wide open receivers could've easily scored.

Neither team played its best football. But Tennessee gutted it out and found a way to win the game. Florida, on the other hand, did not.

So no, Jon, it shouldn't have been a blowout. Florida didn't make the plays they had to make to win the game. Tennessee didn't either...until they did. And that was the difference.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter what should or shouldn't have happened. All that matters is that Tennessee left Neyland with a much-needed win against Florida.
