The NBA was taking by storm with the arrival of Victor Wembanyama. The French phenom went viral on social media as his unique skill set combined with his 7-foot-3 frame leaves him with sky-high potential in the league.

Leading up to the draft, the hype around Wembanyama grew even more. He was understood to be the No. 1 overall pick far before the cycle even began. Once the San Antonio Spurs won the draft lottery, they knew they had their guy.

During his rookie season, Wembanyama's every move was followed, but the spotlight didn't move him. The Spurs star stayed grounded, finishing the season with averages of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.6 blocks per contest.

Just by his statistical averages along, it's clear Wembanyama is set up for a career full of success and accolades. His defensive presence is clear with the eye test, but his video game-like block numbers support that. He can also score at all three levels, which was proven with his incredible scoring in his rookie season.

Again, the 7-foot-3 star proved all of the hype and validated the media for following his path far before he reached the league. The hype won't slow down any time soon, though. Memphis Grizzlies second-year forward GG Jackson, who entered the league with Wembanyama made a bold claim about the Spurs center during an appearance on " Run it Back ."

"[Wembanyama] is gonna be the greatest player to ever play the game," Jackson claimed.

Jackson isn't the only current player to buy into the hype surrounding Wembanyama. Many current players, former players, fans and pundits have sung his praises after just one season in the NBA.

Now teammates with Chris Paul in San Antonio, Wembanyama will be able to display his progression and extra weight with a top-tier playmaker while carving out his career.
