Onstage Video Captures the Moment Luke Combs Was Surprised With Music City Hall of Fame Induction

Luke Combs was one hour away from earning his business degree when he dropped out of Appalachian State University and set off for Nashville. In 2016, his single “Hurricane” put him on the country music map. Less than a decade later, the “Fast Car” singer has launched 18 tracks to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart. Recently, the North Carolina-born artist was stunned to learn of another career milestone—in the middle of his own show, no less.

Luke Combs Will Join Jimmy Buffett in Music City Hall of Fame

Luke Combs kicked off his inaugural Bootleggers Bonfire event last Thursday (Oct. 10) in Miramar Beach, Florida. As the three-day festival drew to a close Saturday (Oct. 12), Combs’ manager, Christopher Kappy, strode onstage during the two-time Entertainer of the Year’s headlining set.

“Ten years ago, you moved to Nashville without a record deal, without a publisher, with some songs and a dream,” Kappy announced to a bemused Combs. “Could you please turn around and face this screen?”

The Grammy winner turned to find a message on the Jumbotron behind him: “Congratulations Luke Combs on your upcoming induction into the Music City Walk Of Fame.”

Combs will join Jimmy Buffett, The Fairfield Four, Colin Reed and Bill Cody in this year’s class of Music City Walk Of Fame inductees. The ceremony will take place Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Music City Walk Of Fame Park in downtown Nashville.

The “Beautiful Crazy” singer is in illustrious company, joining the likes of Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn.

Combs: Manager “F—Ing Got Me This Time”

As the crowd roared, a sheepish Luke Combs grabbed hold of the microphone. After ribbing his manager for normally being “awful at surprises, Combs had to admit, “He f—ing got me this time.”

“I would have never expected anything like that,” the “When It Rains It Pours” hitmaker said. “I’m not even certain that I deserve something like that.”

Deana Ivey, President and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, begs to differ. “Luke’s stellar career, marked by chart-topping hits and a deep connection to his fans, has made him one of country music’s brightest stars and the perfect addition to this prestigious group of honorees,” Ivey said.
