Bills quarterback Josh Allen is set to play against the Jets on 'Monday Night Football' this week, but the veteran did have a slight injury scare last week.

During Buffalo's loss to the Texans last week, Allen left the game to be evaluated for a concussion before eventually being cleared to return. He just one snap, calling into question how the Bills handled the injury.

    Josh Allen concussion controversy

On a third-down play late in last week's game vs. the Texans, Allen hit his head hard against the turf as he was being tackled by the ankles while trying to throw the ball away,

Allen was evaluated by medical staff on the sidelines for a concussion, and it appeared that the quarterback might not return to the game. However, on the Bills' next possession, Allen returned after missing just one play.

Fans were confused as to how Allen was cleared of a concussion so quickly when the NFL has tried to play it safe when dealing with concussions in recent years.

To things more confusing, Allen said after the game that he was originally worried about his chest before quickly saying he rolled his ankle, causing many fans to assume he was trying to cover for a potential head injury at a key moment in the game. However, per the NFL's concussion protocol, an independent neurologist checked out Allen on the sideline and cleared him to go back into the game.

    NFL-NFLPA statement on Josh Allen

The NFL and NFLPA jointly investigated Allen's concussion protocol from last week, but the organizations ultimately found no wrongdoing. In a statement, the NFL and NFLPA said "the steps required by the concussion protocol were followed" when medical staff evaluated Allen during the Bills-Texans game.

    Is Josh Allen playing tonight?

The Bills quarterback not only dealt with a potential concussion last week, but he is also dealing with injuries to his left hand and ankle. However, neither of those injuries is expected to limit Allen in any way on Monday night vs. New York.

Allen fully practiced all week while dealing with his left hand and ankle injuries, but he was not noted to have any concussion-like symptoms on the injury report.
