In honor of National Indigenous People's Day, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is highlighting its commitment to recognizing and supporting Native American communities throughout the state. With California home to the largest Native American and Alaska Native population in the U.S., the CHP emphasizes the importance of fostering relationships and promoting traffic safety on and around tribal lands.

As part of this commitment, the CHP has launched the Native-Tribal Traffic Education Program (TTEP), aimed at proactively engaging with Native American and Alaska Native communities. The program's primary focus is to promote safe driving behaviors and enhance connections between these communities and law enforcement.

Key areas of emphasis for the Native-TTEP include addressing distracted driving, ensuring car seat safety, and encouraging seatbelt use. The initiative is designed to respect tribal sovereignty and cultural practices while acknowledging the unique challenges faced by these communities.
