Greg McElroy Rips CFB Powerhouse for 'Inexcusably Dumb' Game in Week 7

Many fans, particularly Alabama fans, expected the Crimson Tide to rebound in a big way after their Week 6 loss to Vanderbilt just over a week ago.

However, that's not what happened on Saturday against South Carolina. After giving up 19 unanswered points, Alabama found themselves trailing by five and had to surge in the fourth quarter to bounce back from an ugly showing in the final moments of the second quarter.

On Sunday, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy discussed the Tide's performance, and the legend did not hold back on his feedback of what he saw.

"Just an inexcusably bad and dumb game that was played by the Crimson Tide," McElroy said Sunday on "Always College Football ." "Just dumb. Flat-out dumb, and it needs to get addressed really quickly, because that almost cost them and it shouldn't have."

In the closing minutes of the first half, Alabama held a 14-0 lead before giving up a touchdown, safety, and a field goal as the Gamecocks surged back to only be down 14-12 as halftime approached.

"Alabama made some of the dumbest mistakes I think I've ever seen," McElroy said. "Seriously, for as well-coached and as good this team has traditionally been, that was about as bad as it gets at the end of the first half, and at the end-of-game situation. This team right now is lacking situational awareness, which is really a problem, and it needs to get addressed and get addressed rather quickly."

Alabama is set to play at Tennessee this coming Saturday, who is ranked No. 11 in the nation, and McElroy displays concern after the Tide's performance against the Gamecocks.

"They were the better team yesterday, they outplayed South Carolina," McElroy said. "But the dumb mistakes, man, just gift-wrapping points -- just can't happen. Because against really, really good teams. You're gonna get got. And guess what? You got a really good team coming up next week when you travel to Tennessee to take on the Volunteers."
